I’m Rich
I was bitten by a radioactive D&D game in 1978 and I’ve been exploring every roleplaying game I can get my hands on since. I’m a game designer, writer, podcaster, teacher, and father of two avid gamers. Games are the perfect delivery system for Stealth Education, encouraging cognitive and social connections, as well as teaching reading, vocabulary, math, history, mythology, and so much more. My wife, a former Education Specialist, and I believe that games change lives.
Player agency drives my sessions. When everyone at the table is involved in the game, the investment is high and the stories are epic. I lean heavily into a “Yes, and…” style of gaming, folding the players’ inspirations and “out of the box” ideas into the rules to personalize the story, whether an original adventure or pre-written module.
The stories I create are driven by my passion for marine science, my world travels, and my work in both veterinary and human medicine. The ocean and its creatures inspire tales filled with adventure and discovery, and roleplaying through fictional aquatic worlds allows me to teach players about the wonders of our own.
If you’d like to learn more about me and my love for gaming with kids, you can link over to my interview on the Total Party Thrill podcast where I discuss how we use RPGs and board games as educational tools, choosing the right game for the right group, and more.
