I’m a game designer, writer, podcaster, teacher, and father of two avid gamers. Games are the perfect delivery system for Stealth Education, encouraging cognitive and social connections, as well as teaching reading, vocabulary, math, history, mythology, and so much more. My wife, a former Education Specialist, and I believe that games change lives. Player agency drives my sessions. When everyone at the table is involved in the game, the investment is high and the stories are epic. I lean heavily into a “Yes, and…” style of gaming, folding the players’ inspirations and “out of the box” ideas into the rules to personalize the story, whether an original adventure or pre-written module. Each player gets to choose their character and with it their character sheet. This comes prefilled with all the information about their character’s abilities and equipment. Players then come up with their own take on their character’s personality, what they are like, and their history. Are they more like Bilbo Baggins or Brienne of Tarth? T’Challa or Han Solo? Players should have a browser open to their character sheet and be able to toggle between at and the zoom window while they are playing.
